Identity Crisis

A couple of weeks ago I visited the National New York Central Railroad Museum in Elkhart.  They have a binder that contains a variety of photographs of railroad workers taken over the years, in which the people are mostly unidentified.  I knew that several relatives had worked for the railroad at one time or another, but I was surprised that one of the workers pictured looked familiar.  It was a group picture captioned "N.Y.C. Storehouse Gang - July 1924.

The first picture below is from that photograph.  I think this man may be John Haeb (Grandma Martin's eldest brother).  He would have been about 45 when this was taken.  According to the 1920 Federal Census, he worked as a mason tender on the railroad.

Compare the above picture to the one below.  John Haeb is on the left and his brother Matthew is on the right.  I don't know when it was taken, but it had to be before April 1942, the date he died.

The prominent cheekbones are what first drew my attention to him. The eyes, hair and mouth also look the same to me.  Just a note:  He is the only person in the group picture wearing suspenders.  Now if that isn't evidence, what is?

So, what do you think?  Was John Haeb part of the Storehouse Gang?
